Dance Games and Markings

Bright, colourful and bursting with energy, our dance markings are a brilliant way to bring rhythm and movement to your school playground. Designed to encourage creativity, teamwork, and active play, these games offer something truly unique for breaktimes, lunchtimes, and PE lessons alike.

From small group activities to games for two, these markings not only promote fitness, but also help develop coordination and confidence. Whether you’re looking to encourage more physical activity or simply add a fun and inclusive activity to your outdoor space, these are a firm favourite among schools across the UK.

Markings Made for Movement

Our dance markings are vibrant, engaging designs laid directly onto your playground surface, made as placeholders for kids as they make their way through a series of steps, patterns, or movements. These markings encourage exercise, mimicry, and rhythm through simple but imaginative dance games.

We currently offer two main types of dancing games for schools:

  • Copy Me Dance Markings: Designed to be used in pairs, one child leads while the other copies their moves. A great way to practise turn-taking and observation.
  • Dance With Me Playground Markings: Ideal for small groups, this version encourages coordinated movements, teamwork, and social interaction.

What Does Dancing Do for Your Pupils?

Physically, these games help children build balance, coordination, spatial awareness and fine motor skills, all while staying active in a playful, low-pressure environment. They also support cognitive development by encouraging memory, concentration and pattern recognition. Children quickly learn to follow sequences, mirror movements and think ahead, all useful skills both inside and outside the classroom.

Equally important are the social and emotional benefits. Dance-based games promote cooperation, communication and turn-taking, helping pupils to build positive relationships with their peers. The chance to express themselves through movement also boosts confidence and emotional wellbeing, making the playground a more inclusive, welcoming space for all.

Where You Can Make the Most of Dance Markings

Break and Lunchtime Fun

Dance markings are an instant invitation to play. During unstructured time, they give children something positive and energetic to focus on, helping to reduce arguments and encourage healthy interaction. Because the games are self-led, they require little to no adult supervision once introduced.

PE Lessons and Structured Activities

Incorporating dance markings into PE lessons is a fantastic way to warm up, build coordination or explore rhythm. Teachers can use the markings for simple routines, copying exercises, or to teach fundamental movement skills in a more engaging way. They’re also brilliant for building confidence in pupils who may be less comfortable with traditional sport.

Making Markings Suit Your Space

We understand that no two playgrounds are the same. That’s why we offer the flexibility to customise your dance markings to suit your exact needs. Want to make the challenge harder by spreading the steps further apart? No problem. Need to adapt a game for a larger group? We can add extra sections or expand the layout. Our bespoke service means we can tweak colours, spacing or design elements to suit your space or specific learning goals.

Larger or more complex installations may also benefit from a site survey, often carried out using drone technology to help visualise the final result before work begins.
