Designs & Lines Makes Local News for Our Work in Kirkcaldy

We were thrilled to work with Fife Council and the 80th Fife Linktown Scout Group on new play markings and games for Kirkcaldy’s waterfront recently, with Fife Today paying a visit to take a look at our work! 

This local news site wanted to see what the Scouts had picked out from our range of playground markings. So, we thought we’d also explore our work here, showcasing what we achieved in this lovely Scottish seaside town.

Who Was the Client and What Did They Ask for?

We worked with Fife Council on this project, although they had a lot of help from Fife Linktown Scout Group! The Scouts played a pivotal role, charged with selecting games that would be most enjoyable for their fellow members, friends, and family. Some of the Cubs even participated in launching the summer initiative, adding their very own personal touch to the project.

The aim of all of this was to create an engaging, family-friendly environment that would encourage even more residents and visitors to enjoy Kirkcaldy’s town centre. Our permanent playground markings were designed to complement other recent developments in the area, making it a hub for tourism and improving the lives of residents.

What Did We Do for Them?

By utilising our expertise and creating durable and visually appealing markings, we were able to fill up the waterfront from the basin car park to Nicol Street. We did this with Hopscotch markings, Mazes, different kinds of Games, a Fitness Circle, and a giant World Map made to stimulate the eye and get kids and adults alike moving and exercising for fun and fitness.

Our quick-drying products always ensure minimal disruption during installation, allowing the markings to be used almost immediately after application. This meant even more people could enjoy these games and activities right away, as the promenade is open to the public and accessible at any time.

As the markings are made of long-lasting thermoplastic, they’re also fully guaranteed for four years and should withstand high foot traffic and diverse weather conditions. They’re designed to last up to ten times longer than paint too, perfect for low maintenance long-term use.

What Did the Local Community Think?

The feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive. Local residents have praised the initiative and the markings themselves, noting how it has made their walks along the promenade more enjoyable and less stressful. One resident commented, “They are great and a fab addition! My children have already been down enjoying them. Well done to all involved.” Another resident shared, “My girls had a go yesterday and loved it. It made a walk along the prom with them much less stressful and fun.”

Councillor Ian Cameron, convener of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, highlighted the significance of these games and drawings as a way to enhance the waterfront, which is a vital area of the town. His enthusiasm was evident as he demonstrated his hopscotch skills during a photoshoot taken at the esplanade, showcasing the fun and interactive nature of the new installations for all visitors.
